The anonymous driver behind a 'terrible and callous' hit-and-run that claimed the life of a Sydney grandmother was more than likely aware of the crash, a coroner has found. Jean Harrison was fatally struck two days after her 83rd birthday as she made the 800-metre trip from a shopping centre to her home in residential Miller on February 17, 2015. NSW coroner Elizabeth Ryan on Tuesday found the woman was most likely struck down by a car or sport utility vehicle whose driver - 'most distressingly' - fled the scene. 'This driver was more than likely aware but did not remain at the scene and has not since come forward since to acknowledge (the incident),' the coroner said. 'That person has done a terrible and callous thing to Jean and her family ... her family has been left with no answers.' Despite a $350,000 reward for information, police don't have enough evidence to solve the case. 'Someone has done this and not taken responsibility,' Ms Ryan said. 'Other people may know what has happened and are not saying anything.' The one-day inquest had heard police were initially pointed to a trio of trail bike riders in the area the day of the crash, but further investigation now pointed to a car being involved. The driver may have come out of the cul-de-sac Mrs Harrison was crossing and not seen her due to a blind spot on the car's A-pillar, Professor Raphael Grzebieta said on Tuesday. 'But so far as thereafter?' Ms Ryan asked. 'Oh, yes, you'd feel it,' Prof Grzebieta said. 'You'd have seen Mrs Harrison coming on to the vehicle bonnet.' Mrs Harrison had been halfway home in a taxi with neighbours when she realised she'd left her purse at the shops and walked back. CCTV captured her leaving the shopping centre again at 11.37am - eight minutes before she was found unconscious at the entry to Dorset Place, her inquest heard on Tuesday. Investigators were working with little forensic evidence, the inquest was told. No scuff marks, broken glass or fallen objects had been found on the road to indicate the point of impact, while only ambiguous tyre marks were found on the nature strip. No person had come forward to identify the vehicle involved either. Based on the limited data available, Prof Grzebieta estimated Mrs Harrison was propelled seven metres after being hit at a speed of 30 to 40km/h. He found it highly unlikely for a trail bike to be involved while a forensic pathologist ruled out a simple fall, given Mrs Harrison had rib fractures, head trauma and a fractured pelvis. The inquest heard police were suspicious a local criminal and a stolen car he'd driven was involved. '(But) the police investigation has not been able to directly link this vehicle or any other vehicle to Mrs Harrison's death,' crown advocate Stephen Kelly said. Noting a lot of information given to police had come from 'unreliable sources', Sergeant Kelly said the male person-of interest had offered a fake name and pointed detectives towards the trail bike riders when speaking to police shortly after the crash. In an interview on November 4 this year, the man - whose name is shielded by court order - denied involvement and was shocked police would speak to him about a death he didn't know anything about, the inquest was told. The man also contradicted evidence he'd given in 2015 but police are unsure whether the past user of the drug ice was suffering memory loss or being 'deliberately untruthful', Sgt Kelly said. About 2.45am (January 1 2019), a vehicle was travelling east on Sextonville Road, near the intersection of Lakeside Drive, when it has left the road and hit an electrical supply box.

The vehicle has rolled, trapping two of its three occupants. A female passenger managed to free herself from the wreck.

The male driver and male front seat passenger were trapped in the vehicle which has caught fire. Emergency services were notified by neighbours.

Police were able to pull the driver from the vehicle, however due to the flames officers were unable to reach the passenger.

The male passenger, believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene.

The female passenger was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for suspected back injuries.

Both injured parties were taken to Lismore Base Hospital. The driver will also undergo mandatory testing.
